Attention all Liverpool landlords!

Liverpool City Council has introduced a new selective landlord licensing scheme, which will come into effect on 1st April 2022.

What is the selective landlord licensing scheme?

The scheme has been introduced under the government’s selective licensing laws, to ensure private rented properties are licensed to meet fire, electric and gas safety standards, and are in a good state of repair. The scheme also ensures the license holder can deal effectively with any complaints about their tenants and anti-social behaviour.

As a landlord in Liverpool, do I need the license?

If your privately rented property is in the identified 16 wards of Liverpool below, it is compulsory to have a license.

Anfield

Central

County

Everton

Fazakerley

Greenbank

Kensington and Fairfield

Krikdale

Old Swan

Picton

Princes Park

Riverside

St Michaels

Tuebrook and Stoneycroft

Warbreck

If you’re unsure which ward your property is situated, please click here to use the government’s postcode search function.

Is there a cost?

Yes. The license is paid in two parts, the first payment is an administration charge taken when you submit your application, and the second is when your license is ready to be granted and the necessary compliance checks are arranged to ensure your property meets the license conditions.

Costs vary depending on your property and any landlord memberships. Please click here to see the costs explained.

Don’t forget, you can also qualify for an early bird discount if you apply before 30th June 2022!
